Preserving an Alpine Legacy: Restoring Michael’s Hut

The Michael Nother Memorial Hut stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Michael Nother, a beloved member of our community who tragically passed away in 1975 at the age of 27.
Built in 1977 by Jim Nother of Kurow, the hut serves as a cherished gathering place for skiers and mountaineers alike.

Over the years, the hut has weathered the elements and provided shelter to countless visitors. However, time has taken its toll, and the hut is now in need of urgent repairs. The exterior cladding is deteriorating, lead-headed nails require removal and the internal ceiling requires replacement.

The Awakino Alpine Charitable Trust is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Michael Nother Memorial Hut and ensuring its continued use for decades to come. However, limited funds pose a challenge to the necessary restoration work.
Despite facing higher compliance costs to maintain the skifield and its buildings, our dedicated community of volunteers are committed to seeing this project through.

With your support, we can raise the $9,000 required for materials to complete the restoration of the Michael Nother Memorial Hut. Any funds raised beyond this amount will be held in reserve for future maintenance and upkeep of the hut, ensuring its continued preservation for years to come.
