Take State Highway 82 or 83 to Kurow.

From Kurow

Take Ferguson or Wynyard St to Manse Road.
Turn right onto Cattle Valley Road.
Turn left on Awakino Skifield Road.

Follow the road through farmland where it passes deer fences, then crosses the Awakino River (east branch) concrete bridge and a Private Property sign.

You are now on private property. Please respect this and obey normal rural etiquette.

From this point onwards, the track travels through farmland with gates (some may be shut, so please leave as you find them). The gate at the end of the irrigated flat paddock has a padlock and key to open. Beyond here the track travels through undeveloped farmland, crosses a shallow ford and passes an old grader before climbing to the Lower Carpark where you will find a shipping container. This is as far as a 2WD vehicle can travel and from this point onwards the road passes through the locked gate onto conservation land.

Note: It is absolutely essential that you leave all gates as you find them!

The Upper Road (above the Lower Carpark)

The lower carpark is the LIMIT of 2-wheel drive vehicles in the winter and often has snow lying on it in. When the skifield is open, the locked gate is also open. It is 1.5 - 2km from here to the main lodge at 1100 metres elevation. In winter, 4WD vehicles may need chains to get to the lodge depending on the snowline. The upper road from the lodge to the skifield itself is a further 1.5km and is strictly 4WD in winter, often requiring chains.

If you are coming to the field for your first time, please discuss your arrival time and vehicle arrangements with us on booking. We can provide transport from the upper carpark.
